Habitat: Lives
in rivers and creeks between 20 and 1160 m elevation
in currents of low to moderate velocity, with stony
bottoms and substrata of sand and mud. Aquarium
Care: In the aquarium you should treat this
species as you would any "Pim" and house
them with tank mates that are the same size or larger
and who occupy a different layer of the tank be it
mid water or top. Provide plenty of hiding places
if you intend to keep more than one individual. Diet:
Feeds mainly on aquatic insects, seeds and small fish.
Etymology: The specific name nicaraguensis:
–ensis, suffix denoting place: Lake Nicaragua,
Nicaragua, type locality (also occurs in Costa Rica).
