A
new family which was erected in 2005 (Lacantuniidae),
with a new genus and species of catfish, Lacantunia
enigmatica, It was described from the Río
Usumacinta basin of Chiapas, México.
It cannot be placed within or as a basal sister
lineage to any known catfish family or multifamily
clade except Siluroidei.
