Information:
Although this species is still
considered as a synonym of Osteogaster
aenea by science, it
is recognised in the hobby as a true species.
Its overall size is far smaller and it's shape and
colour pattern clearly distinguish it from C.
aenea. Lineage: Placed in Lineage
7 alongside other members of the so called "aenea/us
group" with the designated type species: C.
eques. A revision in the future would constitute
the resurrection of the genus name Osteogaster
(Cope, 1871). As
of the latest update Corydoras venezuelanus
has now been placed in Lineage 7 and has the new genus
name of Osteogaster (Dias et al. 2024).
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most of this
genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed with
small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras/Osteogaster
in good health. Etymology: The specific
name venezuelanus:
From Venezuela. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydorasvenezuelanus.
