Description:Head about as deep as wide; rounded snout;
without teeth on palate. Habitat:
Occurs in large lowland rivers. Diet:
Consists of bivalve mollusks, crustaceans, aquatic
macrophytes and plant detritus. Fishermen catch them
with trawls, seines, and traps. Etymology:
The genus name Hemipimelodus: Hemi
- half, referring to previous
placement of H. borneensis in Pimelodus (then
a catch-all genus for many catfishes). The specific
name borneenis:
–ensis, suffix denoting place: western Borneo,
Indonesia, type locality (also occurs in Cambodia,
Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Viêt Nam). Remarks:
On some online searches you can still find this species
listed as Cephalocassis borneensis.
