Description:
Dorsal soft rays (total): 4; Anal soft rays: 57 -
73; Vertebrae: 53 - 58. A unique combination of the
following characters: head width 11.6-15.4% SL, head
depth 8.2-9.9% SL, pelvic fin length 7.5-9.6% SL,
length of dorsal fin base 0.8-1.9% SL, depth of caudal
peduncle 6.2-7.6% SL, and principal caudal fin rays
14-16. Eye circular. Habitat: Adults
inhabit streams. Sexual Differences:
Unusually large genital papilla; males with a long
conical papilla, while females with a flat, leaf-shaped
papilla with a small projection at the tip. Colouration:
Dark brown body; dorsal surface purple; stomach light
grey; all fins are light grey. Etymology:
Named after the type locality in Vietnam of Cochinchina
which refers to the region south of the Gianh River.
Diet:They feed
actively at night on small fish, crustaceans and insects.
