Information:
Very similar to Osteogaster
rabautiand
are sometimes difficult to tell apart. O. zygata
is a slimmer fish, not so colourful and grows larger.
The fry of each of these two has proven that they
are two separate Osteogaster species. (Fuller,
1980). Lineage: Placed in Lineage
7 alongside other members of the so called "aenea
group" with the designated type species: C.
eques. A revision in the future would constitute
the resurrection of the genus name Osteogaster
(Cope, 1871). As
of the latest update (Dias et al. 2024) Corydoras
zygatus has now been placed in Lineage 7 and
has the new genus name of Osteogaster and
a specific name change to zygata.Aquarium Care:
This is akin to most of this genus, very peaceful,
and would be best housed with small to medium tank
mates such as Tetras, Rasboras and Danios or in a
species tank for breeding purposes. Diet:
A good quality flake food and tablet food for adults
with sporadic feedings of frozen or live food will
keep your Corydoras/Osteogaster in good health.
Etymology: The specific name zygata:
From the Greek zygados = 'team' or 'pair',
possibly alluding to the close resemblance to Osteogaster
rabauti.Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoraszygatus
or Osteogaster zygatus.
