Information:
Was thought for many years
that this species was Corydoras arcuatus,
now Brochis
arcuata, but
after investigative work by English aquarist Steven
Grant(2014) the original short nosed
species that was supposed to be C. arcuatus
(B. arcuata) has turned out to be a longer
nosed species which had been given the CorydorasWorld
number of CW036. Lineage: Placed
in Lineage 9, the "short-snouted" species
with the designated type species: C. punctatus.
A revision in the future would constitute the resurrection
of the genus name Hoplosopma (Agassiz, 1846).
As of
the latest revision (Dias
et al 2024) Corydoras granti
has now been placed in Lineage 9 and has the new genus
name of Hoplisoma.
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most of this
genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed with
small to medium sized tankmates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Best to purchase 6 individuals or more as they will
be happier in a group. Diet: Readily
accepts a mixed and varied diet which includes granular
foods, tablet food, frozen bloodworm and a good quality
flake. Update2019:
C. granti is widely distributed throughout
the central and western portions of the Amazon basin,
being known from the rivers Negro, Caquetá,
Putumayo, Juruá, Purus and Javari basins and
direct tributaries of the Rio Amazonas-Solimôes
in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The record
from the Iquitos region in Peru was based on unpreserved
specimens Collected by Hans Evers (pers. comm.) Tencatt
et al. Etymology: Hoplisoma granti
is named after Steven Grant, aquarist and amateur
ichthyologist who was the first to realise the distinctness
of this species from the true C. arcuatus (Brochis
arcuata). A genitive noun. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources
as Corydoras granti.
