Information:
As H. carlae is from
Argentina a lower temperture as per the conditions
for the Scleromystaxspecies
would probably suit this Hoplisoma. Similar
pattern to the larger H.
paleatum. Lineage:
Placed in Lineage 6 which has always been classified
as Corydoras (Lacépède, 1803)
so a new genus would need to be described and a new
type species when a new revision is carried out.As
of the latest revision (Dias
et al 2024) Corydoras carlae
has now been placed in Lineage 9 and has the new genus
name of Hoplisoma.Aquarium
Care: This is akin to most of this genus,
very peaceful, and would be best housed with small
to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras and
Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras in
good health. Etymology: The specific
epithet carlae is in honour of Carla Lindenaar-Sparrius,
in charge of administrative duties for 11 years at
the Zoölogisch Museum (Amsterdam) Department
of Ichthyology (where the authors were curators of
fishes). Remarks:
Will sport yellow fins and barbels when in good condition.
This species is
still found on some online sources as Corydorascarlae.
