Known for many years erroneously
as C. bolivianus, but in 1999 Isbrücker
recognised that this species and C. geryi where
one and the same. As they were described in the same
paper he acted as first reviser and named C.
bolivianus as a synonym of C. geryi. The
males of this species are more ornately patterned
than the females who are plainer. Not unlike Brochis
pantanalensis from
sub-clade 2 and can sometimes be mistaken for them
but the caudal fin in C. pantanalensis is
hyaline (clear). Lineage: Included
in Lineage 8 (sub-clade 3) with the "intermediate
long-snouts" with deeper bodies. As
of the latest update Corydoras geryi has
now been placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 3 and has the
new genus name of Brochis (Dias et al 2024).
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most
of this genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed
with small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras in
good health. Etymology: The specific
name geryi: In honour of French physician
and ichthyologist Jacques Géry (1917–2007),
for his many contributions to the ichthyology of the
freshwater fishes of South America. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoras
geryi.
