Etymology:
The genus name of Tachysurus: tachys, swift;
oura, tail, referring to the presumed agility of T.
sinensis based on its “long and nimble”
tail (translation). The specific name of truncatus:
from the Latin truncatus
(truncated), in reference to the relatively short
head of this species. Remarks:
Still valid in some publications as Pseudobagrus
truncatus but Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes has
Tachysurus as the current genus name with
Pseudobagrus truncatus as a junior synonym.
Asia:
China; Changjiang Yangtze River basin. Type
locality: Kia-tiang-fu (China).
