Differs from all other species
of Batasio in colouration. Longitudinal band
above lateral line as in Mystus
vittatus which
it is sometimes mistaken for. Habitat:
This species is known from the Brahmaputra River drainage
of India and Bangladesh. It has been reported from
the Ganges River drainage also, but these records
need to be verified as they might refer to B.
macronotus. Etymology: The genus
and specific name name Batasio:
from the local (Bengali) name of the fish (batasio
or batashi). Remarks:
Batasio batasio was described from the Tista
River (Hamilton 1822).
