The genus Auchenipterus
is closely related to and is similar to, Epapterus
and Pseudepapterus. Habitat:Appears to inhabit the more upstream parts of
rivers where it occupies the upper part of the water
column. Reproduction: First sexual
maturity occurs at a length of 16cm. Reproduction
begins at the start of the rainy season. Fertilisation
is internal, the female being capable of keeping the
sperm in the epithelium of its genital tract. Fecundity
is approximately 15,000 eggs. Diet:
Active at dusk, feeding mainly on insects and small
crustaceans.
