Aquarium Care: The
Amphilius genus are all more or less the
same when keeping them in our aquaria.
Water would need to be kept on the cool side for this
genera as they inhabit flowing waters in their natural
habitat. Not imported very often but would make good
aquarium additions if kept in optimum conditions.
Provide
a small grained gravel or sand substrate, and well
planted with a slight current to facilitate their
natural habitat. Provide rockwork and caves. Diet:
Mosquito larvae, Tubifex, Cyclops, Daphnia, grindal
worms, vegetable food, tablet and flake. Etymology:
The specific name longirostris: longus, long;
rostris, snout, which projects a little beyond lower
jaw. Remarks:
Specimen listed as holotype of Anoplopterus longirostris
is entered in BMNH register with locality only as
Efulen, and Boulenger (1911: 260) indicated that the
locality stated in original description was near Efulen.
The species is widespread or without major threats
throughout the Central Africa assessment region and
is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2009, needs updating).
