Description:
Dorsal fin with I,6; P. 1,9-10 V. i,5; A. ii,5; C.
6/16-18.Differs from G. annandalei and G.
madraspatanum in having the dorsal fin inserted
posteriorly, plaited paired fins, adhesive apparatus
with a central pit and occipital process not reaching
the basal bone of dorsal fin. Besides, the species
is without any colour bands. Habitat:
Known only from the Karimpuzha and Paanapuzha tributary
of River Chaliyar inside the New Amarambalam Reserve
Forest, Kerala, India (Manimekalan and Das 1998).
Colouration: Body with dark grey
without bands. Ventral side of body golden in colour
in living condition and white on preservation up to
pelvic fins. All fins with white edges. Adhesive apparatus
reddish. Remarks:
Glyptothorax davissinghi is assessed as Endangered
as this species has a restricted distribution (<300
km² area of occupancy and <3,000 km²
extent of occurrence, and only two locations). It
is threatened by destructive fishing practices including
the frequent use of plant poisons and dynamites (IUCN
2011).
