Description:
Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total):
6; Vertebrae: 30 - 31. This genus and species is distinguished
by its plicate (pleated) upper lip. It also has a
short thoracic adhesive apparatus that is not much
longer than it is broad; it consists of longitudinal
pleats of skin and it also has serrations on the pectoral
fin spine on the anterior that point toward the tip
of the spine, as well as serrations on the posterior
edge. It also has wide gill openings. Etymology:
Caeltus, engrained in
relief, referring to distinct thoracic adhesive apparatus
and plicate upper lip; glanis, sheatfish (Silurus
glanis), now used as a general term for catfish.The species epithet zonatus meaning
with filament-like appendages, (on the chin, in some
cases).

Myanmar, Kayin State, stream “Chon Son”
between Kyondaw and Phadaw, about 20 km NW of Payathouzu,
(at border with Thailand).
